Mothers Day 2020

Proverbs 31:1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

Introduction: Mothers some good some not so good
Prov. 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus
Luke 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

God chose Eunice to be the mother of Timothy
2 Tim 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Asa’s mother was an evil woman but he did right
1 Ki 15:11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father.
1 Ki 15:13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.

Proverbs 31 gives us a Biblical description of a good mother her “price is for above rubies” Her value to the home and raising children is priceless, There is not a price big enough to place on a good mother.

I. She is of great value to her husband
Col 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

II. She is great value to her children
Prov. 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

III. She is of great value to the economy
Proverbs 31:22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

IV. She is of great value to her country
Proverbs 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

V. She is of great value to her God
Proverbs 31:29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Conclusion: All of the courts, educational institutions, correction institutions, and council institution cannot take the place of a mother
