Holy Spirit

Passage: Gen. 6:3
Service Type:

Holy Spirit

Gen. 6:3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

I.  When we harden our heart, the Holy Spirit stops working

Isaiah 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Rom. 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

  1. Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
  2. To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
  3. But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
  4. Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

II.  What hardens the heart?

  1. Bitterness & Resentment

Eph. 4:31  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32.And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

     2.  Indifference & Pride

Daniel 5:20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

   3.  Disobedience

Zech. 7:12 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of hosts.

Rom. 2:5  But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Prov. 28:14  Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

III.  What should know about the holy spirit

  1. He lives in the believer’s life

John 14:16  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

I Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

    2.  The power of the Holy Spirit changes lives

Ez. 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Conclusion:

Hebrews 3:7 Wherefore as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

  1. 8. Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
  2. When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years .
  3. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
  4. While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation."

Rev. 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely
