Midnight Friends

Preacher:
Passage: Luke 11:5-9
Service Type:

Midnight friends

Luk 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

The midnight prayers are those that continue through the dark hours

There are people this very moment that are living in the darkness of midnight

I. Asking a friend for help at midnight

Luk 22:43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

II. This has to be a good friend to call under these conditions

Pr 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

III. The one in need is persistent (importunity)

A. Ask and it shall be given

1. Must be a need

2. Pride prevents us from asking

3. Believing it will be given

B. Seek and you shall find

1. Search among your own resources

2. Search among your friends

3. Seeking involves your efforts in the need

C. When you have found the right door knock on it persistently

1. Trusting in Jesus after all of this that your need will be met

2. Believing in all the plan that you asked, sought, and are now knocking on the right door

3. Praise God for helping you as being his partner in finding the need met.

Conclusion: We have children, if they are in need we help them how much more will God help us as His children to have our needs met

Phil 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
