Remembering and Forgetting

Preacher:
Passage: I THES 1:1-5
Service Type:
Remembering and Forgetting

I Thess 1:1  Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2   We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
3  Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
4  Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
5  For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Php 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before

Knowing what to remember and what to forget
We remember the lives that were giving for this great country we have and that we have the privilege to live in
We remember the flag that stands for our savior and God that gave us this country.
I. Remember Jesus Christ
Ac 15:26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ac 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

II.  Remember the cross on which He died for our sins
I Cor 1:18  For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

III. Remember His desire to care for us
Matt 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
1 Pe 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you

IV. Remember His Church
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
V. Remember He desires to have fellowship with us
I John  1:3  That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4  And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

VI. Remember His promise of salvation for us
Joh 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Conclusion: The greatest memory is to know we have heaven for a home if we are saved.
