The Work of Christ In and Through us

Preacher:
Passage: Romans 5:1-11
Service Type:

The work of Christ in us and through us
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

I. Tribulation
Tribulation brings out the best, and the worst in us (separates, cream rises to the top)
Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

II. Patience
The work of God in our hearts takes time
Romans 5:3b tribulation worketh patience;

III. Experience
We learn by doing
Romans 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

IV. Hope
Not hope in ourselves or situations but hope by faith in God
Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Conclusion:
The giving of ourselves and loving others
Phil 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Acts 20:35 I have shown you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

How do we gain these attributes, enduring tribulations, patience, experience, and hope?
Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

1. Ask - Prayer
2. Seek - Look for opportunities to share the love of God
3. Knock - Make opportunities to share the love of God
