Things Worthy of Remembering

Passage: Exodus 13:3
Service Type:

THINGS WORTHY OF REMEMBERING

Exodus 13:3

INTRODUCTION: Memorial Day is primarily given to remembering those who have died, whether it be loved ones, friend, or those who have died for their country. We are instructed dozens of times in the Word of God to remember certain things. The Israelites were admonished to keep to their remembrance various days and events of their national history.

I want to call your attention to some things that are worthy of our remembrance. Some of these I will need your response to.

  1. WE SHOULD REMEMBER THE TIME AND PLACE OF OUR SALVATION

Have Some of Congregation Respond By Giving The Time And Place Of Salvation.

Encourage Those Who Never Speak Up in Church To Participate In This.

     2. WE SHOULD REMEMBER OUR VOWS AND COMMITMENTS

(Eccl 5:4 KJV) When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

(Eccl 5:5 KJV) Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

  1. Our Vows To God.
  2. Maybe to teach a S/S class.
  3. To witness more often.
  4. To live a holy life.

  1. Our Vows To Our Spouse. (Have congregation give some marriage vows that they have made.) Relate the violation of these to the divorce rate in America.
  2. To love.
  3. To honor.
  4. To cherish.
  5. To keep self for the other.
  6. Vows To Others.
  7. To pray for a certain need.
  8. To offer what help they need.

III. WE ARE TO REMEMBER OUR BRETHREN

(1 Tim 4:6 KJV) If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

Intercessory Prayer. (1 Sam 12:23 KJV) Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

 (2 Tim 1:3 KJV) I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

There was a time when people were more concerned about friends than they were for themselves.

IV.  WE ARE TO REMEMBER THE TRUTH AND TEACHING OF GOD

(John 14:26 KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

(John 14:27 KJV) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

(Rev 3:3 KJV) Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

(Rom 12:1 KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

(Rom 12:2 KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

(2 Cor 6:17 KJV) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

(2 Cor 6:18 KJV) And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

 (Eph 5:18 KJV) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

(Rom 13:14 KJV) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

    V.  WE ARE TO REMEMBER OUR PARENTS

(Eph 6:1 KJV) Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Why So Many Teenage Tragedies? They have broken this commandment.

(Psa 71:9 KJV) Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.

VI.  WE ARE TO REMEMBER OUR SOLDIERS AND HEROES

I have been taught that a person in a military uniform is a hero, and I still honor that today.

The Jewish soldiers were honored as they returned from battle. “David has slain his 10,000’s.”

When protestors begin to speak out against our military, I want to see blood spilled - theirs. I can’t stand to see people make light of those who have fought for our country.

We should teach our children about real heroes who have fought and died for our freedoms and this country.

VII. WE ARE TO REMEMBER THE LORD

(Neh 4:14 KJV) And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

Remember Him With Our Time.

Remember Him With Our Talent.

 Remember Him With Our Treasure.

 Remember Him In Our Thoughts.

 Remember Him In Our Tasks.

 Remember His Mercy And Goodness.

Let’s not forget these things that are so important.

Turn to Judges 2:10 for our final thought:

(Judg 2:10 KJV) And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
