What is Revival?

Passage: Psalms 85:1-5
Service Type:

What is Revival?

Psalm 85:1 Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.

Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.

Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.

Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.

Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

What is Revival?

It’s not souls being saved, its pastors stirring up the Christians.

Revival is the restoration of God’s presence to His people. There is no true meaning and purpose apart from God’s presence.

Evangelist preach salvation messages to get people saved

Pastors should be revivalist and stir up the people, many are not concerned

God is the giver of life and man is ever drifting. What is needed is a reviving, coming back to life, a fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit on your life. That is revival!

James 4:8
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.

We need revival, because our sins consume, our thoughts and our actions

Psalms 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

I. If America is to be saved, we need a revival. Not wealth, education, a great economy, or pleasure.

Things will not make you happy

Solomon had anything a man could want but he was not happy

  1. Wealth

Ecc. 6:2

A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

  1. Wisdom

Ecc 1:16-18

I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

17  And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

18  For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

II.  The church needs revival

Revivalism is an increased spiritual interest or renewal in the life of a church congregation

The church body needs to reach the lost, broken, and hurting people in the world.

People are desperately looking for hope and healing in their lives today

Satan doesn’t want us doing anything that will lift up the name of Jesus Christ!

we need to be witnesses

Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Matthew 24:14

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

III.  Our children, our Sunday school, our families all need revival

Satan is out to destroy our homes (transgenders, abortions, language, broken home, etc…)

Is.3:8 & 9

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

9  The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

  1. The lies of the devil want to keep us from being on fire for God.

Acts 3:19

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

  1. Satan will stop at nothing to keep us from sharing that passion with others.

 Ps 63:1

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

Conclusion:

Psalm 85:5 Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

6  Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Time is running out. Jesus Christ is coming again and he’s coming soon. Pray and ask God to send spiritual revival among his people individually and as a Church body.
