Draw Nigh to God

Passage: Matt. 7:7-8
Service Type:

Draw Close to God

Matt. 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

  1. Ask

Jesus commands us to ask.

Matt. 7:11  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Asking is praying and coming to God

Prayer is how we communicate our needs and desires to God.

II.  Seek

Seek the Lord with all your heart

Understand the language of God

II Cor 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

You will find him when you seek him with all your heart

Ps 105:4 Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore

His heart’s desire is for us to persistently and passionately look for Him.

III.  Knock

Rev. 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Keep knocking until the door is opened and the desire is met. A believer should pray in faith for God’s provision and be persistent in prayer

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

To knock involves physical movement, one in which the Christian takes action. Although asking and seeking are of great importance, they would be incomplete without knocking. The apostle John said Christians ought not to love in word alone but with actions also. I John 3:18  my little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Conclusion:

It’s good to pray and seek God, but if one does not also act in ways that are pleasing to God, all is for naught. Jesus said believers should love God with all their heart, soul, strength, and mind.

When we ask, seek, and knock we will draw close to God.

Every time you pray, God is teaching you how to hold on to His hand and to walk through your life with Him.  Ask, seek, and knock.
